This new generation of teens and young adults is much different than the previous. They are growing up with technology we never dreamed of as kids - I say this as an elder millennial who thought the Oregon Trail was cutting edge tech. Potential for learning is astronomical and we all know that our children are destined for great things. However, with great leaps in technology come great downfalls as well. Misinformation is rampant and our kids need a reliable source of information to turn to for concerns regarding their health. The hope is that they will turn to us, their parents, for that guidance and information.
Yet, we don't have all the answers. Which is ok, no one ever has all the answers. But, we can do our best to give useful and safe material to help them though life.
One such area where we may not feel so confident about teaching is pelvic health and puberty. Now, hopefully most of us are having sit down conversations with our kids about puberty, but, how confident do we really feel about what we are saying? Did we google the information? How reliable is that search anyway? Well, this is where I hope we can come in and help. We believe that everyone should be properly educated about their pelvic anatomy, health and conditions that may arise in this area. We believe that education should start early, as kids begin their transition into adolescence and teens transition to adulthood. This is when nature hyper-focuses them on this part of their bodies.
We have created workshops (free) to educate parents on the ins and outs of puberty. We want to make sure that you feel comfortable with the information you are giving your child. We also want to ensure you can identify the pelvic signs and symptoms that require further assessment or investigation. It is disconcerting to know that conditions such as endometriosis go undiagnosed for decades when symptoms are apparent much earlier in life. If we know what is atypical, we can better advocate for our children and steer them on the right path toward treatment early. Too many women and men grown into their adulthood without an understanding why certain things hurt or don't feel right. We have failed our earlier generations in many aspects related to health but the buck needs to stop with us.
