What Can Cause Pelvic Pain?
There are a number of reasons you may be experiencing. Pain can be felt only with certain activities such as running or jumping or in certain positions like when sitting for a certain time. For others, pain is so debilitating that they are unable to tolerate a gynecologic pelvic exam, insert a tampon or penetrative sex.
Causes for this can include pelvic floor weakness or tightness, scar tissue formation following abdominal, pelvic or birth related surgeries. Trauma can be a factor as well. If you have a history of falling on your buttocks or injuring your tailbone it may be the reason you are experiencing pelvic pain. Other factors that can contribute to your pain can be related to hormones such as changes in estrogen levels.
Overall, pelvic pain can be quite complex. For this reason, seeing a pelvic health physical therapist could be quite beneficial in helping you find the root of your problem and start the treatment you need.
